Care training consultancy services

Caretips provides training consultancy services for your care organisation. If you are thinking of running your own in-house training (carer courses), you have come to the right place. We have a specialist team of consultants who can assist you with developing your own in-house carer training. This will include assistance with planning, developing courses, resources, assessments, quality assurance and methods of evaluation.

Why train your care workers?

Part of managing a well-led service is to ensure your team is competent or working towards. This should not be just a tick box exercise but based on measurable outcomes. It is an essential part of any care service to promote the Career Professional Development (CPD) of staff. Knowledgeable and competent staff will assist you to achieve the aims and objectives of the service. Training will also assist your workers to develop their understanding of all the principles, concepts and good practice required in a care environment. Investing in training has good positive outcomes for the people who use your services and business.

There is a lot of value with training which starts with the reassurance that your care workers are equipped to deal with the demands of care. This can be also motivational and demonstrates the value you place on your staff.

Investing in training is also a regulatory requirement and an area that is considered when bidding for contracts. The CQC will expect to see evidence of up-to-date training and qualifications to meet the regulations and competently carry out regulated services. Please note, the CQC themselves do not have a list of mandatory training, nor do they directly recommend certain qualifications. This is the job of Skills for Care. If you are delivering in-house courses, there is no issue as long as you can prove the training is fit for purpose. We can assist you with the implementation of quality assurance for your training and in-house courses.

Trained staff are easy to manage and support in particular when they fully know their roles and responsibilities. This also helps with instilling a culture of ownership and shared responsibility which is required when supporting clients. Remember care workers play a significant part in any CQC compliance inspection.

Consequences of poor or not training your staff?

Training of care workers should not be treated as a tick box exercise as highlighted earlier. You need to ensure the enhancement of knowledge and skills has indeed taken place. Just imagine your workers are asked by regulators (CQC inspectors and social workers etc) to describe their actions when responding to a safeguarding issue and they are unable to be articulate about it besides having attended a recent safeguarding course. Imagine the failure of your staff to also be articulate regarding safe handling of medication and issues such as best interest. In this case, there is serious potential harm to the people using your service. You will be unlikely viewed as safe by the CQC. Your leadership will also be questionable in this case seriously affecting your rating. You have a duty to disclose and publish your rating. There will be an impact on the quality of contracts and people will to take a risk with your service. You might also find it difficult recruiting quality staff when there is a bad reputation.
