Choosing your Care Certificate Training Solutions
Skills for care provides a range of free resources that will enable you to fully deliver the care certificate. They are happy for you to customise these. It is a shame some training organisations are selling these resources.
There is a lot of misunderstanding and false claims regarding the care certificate. Some training providers and organisations claim to be endorsed by Skills for Care. This is false. Such endorsement does not exist for the care certificate. Some also claim to be endorsed by CQC to deliver the Care Certificate. This is also not true as no such endorsement exists.
Some also claim that the care certificate can be delivered entirely Online as self study? It is unlikely that all learning outcomes will be achieved through multiple choice questions. Some of the criteria are competence based and require evidence of practice where ever it starts with "Demonstrate". Remember the care certificate was developed by the same organisation that creates occupational standards for care workers, Skills for Care.
There is also some misconception regarding the care certificate replacing your induction and needing to be completed within 12 weeks. Ideally the duration should be in line with organisational and learner needs (shift patterns, evidence of prior learning etc). The general guidance is that staff should not work alone without completing the care certificate. Your staff will be able to carry out some tasks associated with the care certificate standard which they would have met.
Skills for Care make it clear that the care certificate is not a license to practice. Managers and human resources departments should be the ones making decisions regarding the suitability of care workers.
The care certificate does also not replace employer obligations to induct your staff and address all employment requirements.
Our Care Certificate Recommendation
Caretips encourages you to make decisions regarding the delivery of the care certificate from the perspective of quality assurance. We recommend the delivery of the care certificate be treated the same you would do with vocational qualifications such the Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care. This approach will also help to generate evidence that can be used towards regulated qualifications such as the Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care. Assessing the care certificate using the portfolio of evidence approach will also make it easy for care workers to clearly demonstrate their competency. These portfolios of evidence are also good evidence towards the quality of your training.
Support from Caretips to deliver your own Carer Training
We have a number of training solutions for the care certificate for your organisation. The care certificate can be delivered by care organisations entirely in-house. All assessments can be carried out by managers, supervisors or any competent person.
Our service is to support the assessor to be fully occupationally competent to train and assess. This role should be carried out by individuals who have the skills to train, teach, coach, mentor and support learning. Being a social worker or nurse or holder of higher qualifications does not make you occupationally competent to teach. Remember your delivery of the care certificate has to be meaningful and meet the needs of the learners (care workers). You should be in a position to use a range of assessing methods which are valid, reliable and sufficient.
Caretips provides customised resources for your care certificate. This will allow you to deliver the care certificate face to face, classroom, Online or blended. We can help you with the quality assurance of your care certificate. Our care certificate support package starts from £300.
